Urban Country Style Book Give-Away
Lookiloos is absolutely giddy about announcing our first big give-away! We are giving away 5 copies of Urban Country Style, by Nancy Gent and Elizabeth Betts Hickman. To get a feel of the book and its authors read our Q & A with them.
Authors Nancy and Elizabeth write about what happens when country style and urban design mix. The photos inside are beautiful and we were thoroughly impressed by these ladies and their many tips to integrate old and new items, display your collectibles in a modern way and buy both vintage and ultra modern all in one book! Wow.
If you are looking for simple design ideas or need a good day-dream, this book is for you. As the dust jacket describes, this book "captures the contrast between big city style and small town charm". We promise, you'll love it!
Leave a comment below and tell us a little something about your own decorating style. Please leave us a valid email address, we promise not to share with anyone else or spam you. We will randomly select the winners and announce them here next Friday, November 21.

I love books like this! I like the idea of mixing urban and country. Thanks for the giveaway! :-)

My style seems to veer toward the schizophrenic, at least in my mind. I love so many styles of decorating from Southern style to Contemporary PNW style or California chic. I think my favorite would be (at least at this minute in time) a traditional look with bohemian flair. Of course my own home is actually pretty traditional with a lot of "make do" solutions.
Sounds like a great read.

My home is decorated in what I call country farmhouse cottage style.

I live in New York City but I love the country look so I'd love to see how to blend the two decorating styles. Thanks for offering a chance to win this book as a give away!

Hi Gals!
I'm fortunate enough to live in Willow Glen, prime Lookiloos territory.
My decorating style is warm, with a sense of humor. I like my house to reflect the people who live in it, so my extra-long hallway is an art gallery with framed art work by my 12-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter. Thanks to all of you, my entry now features a domed cake pedestal with 16 vintage bowling pin awards tucked inside--a recent find at Move It Elsewhere.

My style at home is basically pretty farmhouse style, but a bit more formal, thanks to inherited pieces. Our colors are the colors of a bag of Jordan Almonds and I have lots of crystal and glass.

Love your website! My style is a bit of classic with a dash of kids' toys thrown in the mix. :) We have several antiques that are from the 18th Century and they sit next to furniture pieces from 2008. A bit of everything. I think that's why I like websites like yours...can see pictures of how others with similar styles (or totally different styles) decorate their homes.

Love your site! My style is pretty eclectic, with the use of family antiques and some newer more traditional pieces. Colors lean towards a more Tuscany palette.
Thanks for the chance to win

I just found your site today. I became a real estate agent just so I could look inside homes all the time. I love to see how people decorate and get new ideas. Since my children came a long I'm no longer in the RE biz, I miss peaking inside. I'll definitely be back to your site again.
I'm so interested in the combination of country and urban decorating and would love a copy of this book to draw more inspiration! thanks for the opportunity.

The greatest challenge my husband and I faced when moving into our townhouse in an historic part of Pasadena in SoCal was what to do with our Star Wars paraphernalia. The warm, vintage wood molding that bordered every room & window and the crystal & iron doorknobs simply didn't provide a conducive environment for the proud chrome and plastic tribute to all things nerdy. Since there was no way we could sacrifice the picturesque 1920s style and architecture of the downstairs (Ikea lamps and furniture looked ridiculous) we decided to relegate our geek-dom to a single room upstairs designated for Matt's studio. We segued from the organic green & brown palette of the living & dining rooms to the TV/studio room by using a stormy-blue that transitioned the upstairs to a more cool, modern look. We painted the molding in the upstairs rooms white, too, which seems to be en vogue and made good use of the period design; the pop of the white borders on blue walls also diminished the obtrusiveness of the presence of wires necessary for technology. The the blue was a perfect backing to the black, silver, grey, and white of our memorabilia.
But this is not to say that our other entertainment areas are devoid of the our geeky-ness! On the white walls of our dining room are several classic science fiction movie posters including "Metropolis" & "The Day the Earth Stood Still" (the early sci-fi posters tended to stick to 3 or 4 neutral colors which looks quite elegant!); two well-designed, 12" Star Wars Cut-Away books and graphic novels featuring our favorite artists can be found on the living room ottoman. Still, I can't seem to find an appropriate place for my cardboard Darth Vader...

My style is so eclectic I'm all over the place. I love several different decorating styles; rustic, cottage, country, shabby chic, traditional. Unfortunately I only have one house so I can't indulge them all.
I love soft colors, architectural details and watercolor art. I'm not a ruffles and lace girl but I like feminine surroundings.
